Tie-Dye Long Johns

Tie-Dye Organic Cotton Baby Long Johns

Some parents like their little one’s clothes to be covered in teddy bears or fairies, but others like a different style: how about these tie-dyed long johns for setting a new trend? They’re available in a bunch of colors and two sizes (9-18 months, 18-24 months) and are made from organic cotton, dyed with low-impact dyes and can be worn on their own or layered in colder weather. They’re also free of flame-retardants but are still certified for sleepwear use because they fit snugly. Very smart!

They’re available for $34.00 at KidBean.

Uncle Goose Wooden Blocks

Uncle Goose Wooden ABC Blocks

They may be too young to understand what the letters mean or to pull the wagon, but that won’t stop babies enjoying the feel of these wooden blocks long before they begin to learn from them. Made from basswood, they’re embossed to give a great tactile response. Each set has around 30 blocks, depending on the language of the alphabet purchased, and they’re all painted with non-toxic, brightly-colored inks that are child-safe. No sharp corners, either. Recommended for 2 years and up.
Uncle Goose Wooden ABC Blocks with Wagon
The English alphabet blocks (with wagon) cost $44.95 at KidBean.

Heart of Vermont Organic Cotton Moses Futon
One of those things that everybody sees in films, but which can be surprisingly difficult to find in real life, the Moses Basket is a great way to keep baby comfortable and with you wherever you go. This one’s hand-woven in a women’s co-operative in Central America, from organic cotton. It’s breathable, chemical-free and even the packaging is recycled paper. The site also has fitted linen and a liner available, made to measure for the basket.

This one’s available for $120.00 from KidBean.

BabyGanics All Purpose Cleaner

eco friendly baby cleaning product, BabyGanics all purpose cleaner

Instead of using petroleum-based cleaners, which are not particularly safe for investigative little fingers and mouths, these all-purpose cleaning products use natural soybean and palm kernel oils. It sounds odd, but when you see that there’s no ammonia, phosphates, petroleum distillates, chlorine, limonene, terpene products or animal by-products – just natural, safe, pleasant-smelling oils – it starts to make sense. They’re scented with lavender, too, and contain no volatile organic compounds.

The cleaners are available for $22.63 for a pack of six Amazon.

Under the Nile Organic Cotton Babybody

A staple basic of babywear is the onesie – a one-piece, button-up suit that’ll fit over diapers. This one is made from 100% organic Egyptian cotton and closes at the bottom with buttons, in the traditional way (making it easy to access those diapers). It has a soft rib knit and is available in three sizes – for 3 months, 6 months and 2 years . It is, of course, undyed as well, making it a great green choice.

The body is available for $10.99 from Amazon.

Baby Bum Bar – A natural Diaper rash lotion

Baby Bum Bar

“Smooth as a baby’s bottom” goes the expression. Presumably, that baby didn’t have diaper rash or dry, chafed skin! To help out with those problems, this bear-shaped bar (with a great name!) from Moon Valley Organics is made out of organic calendula, organic beeswax and organic red palm oil, with added chamomile for extra soothing effect. Not only is it good for baby, but it’s made by a company doing just about everything they can to stay green.

The Bum Bar is sold for $8.99 at Amazon.

 eco friendly Sippy Cup

Sippy Cups have been around for a long time, but this two-pack is not only more comfortable – thanks to its ergonomic design – but also BPA free, PVC free, dye free and dishwasher safe! It has no handles, so it’s more like a real cup. The snap-on lid has no valve to stop spills, so it teaches kids the move from a sippy cup to a normal cup better.

Available for $5.40 in a pack of two from Amazon.

Kushies Cloth Diaper Set

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Kushies Cloth Diaper Set Newborn

Rather than adding to landfill with all those disposable diapers, why not replace at least some of them with cloth? These 8-layer, 100% cotton diapers are resistant enough for nap times, night use and heavy wetters. Kushies Cloth Diaper Set Newborn have an inner waterproof barrier, elasticated legs and all the other mod cons one would expect in a disposable, but you can wash and re-use them instead of throwing them away. Comes in a pack of five, all machine-washable.

They’re available for $48.00 per pack at Amazon.

Luxury Duck

Luxury Duck

How many of us have fond memories of the classic rubber duckie, the perennial bath-time companion who floated through the suds with his cheeky smile? A variation on the theme is the Luxury Duck. These duckies are available in several styles: the Luvee, the Darling and the Daydream are all at the ‘cute’ end of the spectrum. But if it’s personality you want, how about the Space duck, the Biker or the Quick Duck, complete with go-faster stripes? They’re phthalate-free and supplied in a gift box.

Luxury Ducks cost $11.00 from NewBornMom.
